Friends

Friends are the family we choose. Dedicating this blog to all my wonderfully weird friends :D

Friends can belong to different categories, flavours and groups but all of them make our life so much better. Individuals with whom we can share our hearts out, laugh at the silly embarrassing incidents without being judged, who more or less are in the same boat as us.

My first bunch of friends are my childhood buddies staying around my home. Summer vacations and childhood would be so dull had it not been for them. We invented so many games, tried making our own club house, played with puppies, made utensils out of clay, ice cream from chalk powder, cotton rasgullas, studying while playing teacher-teacher, played in the construction sand, celebrated so many festivals together be it Holi, Diwali or Christmas. So lucky to have had the childhood without any gadgets :D

Holidays seemed less for our games. I wish those days would come back. I remember dressing up in the childhood in a saree, purse; pretending to go to some office and now that I have reached that stage all I can think is life was so much better as a kid :)

School friends had a different flavour, doing homework together/bearing punishment together :P All the annual days, game classes, sharing tiffins during lunch, playing in the school bus, exams!

Grow a bit older and you get college friends, your companions in the new found independence. Watching movies together, going for trips, outings, teasing each other about crushes but being there during heart breaks, being love Gurus and giving confident advices (sometimes even without any personal experience :P). This category adds a completely new angle in friendship.

A superset of this category are hostel friends who are like family away from home. Studying together, teaching each other, working on projects day and night, having (the not so great) meals together, being there in sickness, celebrating various festivals together, late night maggis, Mafia, Badminton, carrom, cards and so many games…so many memories. They know you in and out. Like my friend Prathyusha puts it..nothing I do can surprise her anymore, she knows my complete potential of goofing-up :D

Finally, there are the office friends, who are like a breath of fresh air in the corporate. They make learnings, lunch times, snack time, outings, everything interesting. Even better if you take a tour together.. then even these are no less than college friends and become an integral part of life.

Man is definitely a social animal. We need friends. We learn from each other, lift each other up and (hopefully) grow in the process. It is important to remember that each one of them is different from the others and from us(And thank God for that), everyone has their own strength and unique characteristics. That’s what makes them special. We don’t need our replicas, we need people with whom we can enjoy life, who can lift us up during difficulties and just make life colourful.

As life continues, everyone gets busy but the best part is no matter what position or age you reach, when you meet old friends, you relive the age you met them in. We are the same for them as they are for us and nothing can change that :)
